Let's learn something new!

  • Regardless:

    • "Regardless" is an adverb that means without paying attention to the current situation or conditions; despite everything.
    • Example: "We will go hiking regardless of the weather." Here, "regardless" means that the decision to go hiking is made despite the weather conditions.
  • Irregardless:

    • "Irregardless" is a nonstandard adverb that is often used in place of "regardless." It combines "ir-" (a negative prefix) with "regardless," which already means "without regard." This makes "irregardless" technically redundant and incorrect in standard English.
    • Example: "Irregardless of the warnings, he continued on his way." Although commonly used, "irregardless" is considered incorrect by many language experts and is not recommended for formal writing or speech.
