TOPIC 149

Let's learn something new!

  1. Say:

    • "Say" is a verb that generally indicates the act of uttering words or expressing something verbally. It is typically followed by a direct quotation or reported speech.
    • Example: "She said, 'I'll be there at 3 o'clock.'" Here, "said" introduces the direct quotation or reported speech.
    • Example: "He said that he was feeling tired." In this sentence, "said" introduces reported speech without a direct quotation.
  2. Tell:

    • "Tell" is also a verb, but it requires a direct object, usually the person to whom the information is communicated. It is often followed by an indirect object and can be used to convey instructions, commands, or information.
    • Example: "She told him to meet her at the cafe." Here, "told" is followed by the direct object "him" and the instruction "to meet her at the cafe."
    • Example: "He told his parents about his plans to travel." In this sentence, "told" is followed by the direct object "his parents" and the information "about his plans to travel."
